I'm an amateur astronomer, so it shouldn't be surprising that one of the first things I tried to render (after the obligatory "shiny spheres on checkerboards" :-) was a telescope. The 'scope is a "Dobsonian", a style popularized by amateur astronomer John Dobson -- large, cheap, rugged, and easy to build. Appropriately for a ray-traced image, I included the telescope's optics, though they can't be seen from this angle. |
